2026 Voluntary Water Conservation Policy

Let’s Save Water Together – Voluntary Watering Tips for 2026

As we head into the warmer months, Sunset Water District is asking our community to help conserve water. While we expect to have enough supply this year, using water wisely now helps protect resources for next season too.

Did you know about half of the water used at home goes to outdoor watering? A few simple changes can really make a difference:

• Water your lawn no more than 2 days per week
• Water your garden beds using drip irrigation rather than sprinklers, to conserve water, reduce the chance of fungal diseases, and promote healthier plants while using less water.

• Try to water early morning or evening (avoid 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.)
• Skip watering when it’s rainy or windy
• Make sure sprinklers are watering your lawn—not sidewalks or driveways
• Hold off on turning on sprinklers until after the last frost (around mid-May)

You can also help your yard stay healthy with less water by aerating your lawn, mowing a little higher, adding mulch to garden beds, and considering more drought-friendly plants.

We’ll continue keeping an eye on water conditions, and if needed, we may introduce additional measures later in the season.

Thanks for doing your part—small steps now can make a big impact later!
